Chapter 3

Bert ran home as fast as he could. He went to find his family and friends, but everywhere he looked they were nowhere to be found. The last place he decided to look into was the Blue Spruce Cafe--when he set his foot into the restaurant, he had no idea what was going to happen. Then...

"SURPRISE!"

The lights instantly switched on and the startled raccoon jumped with a yelp. But he smiled when he saw Ralph, Melissa, George, Nicole, Lisa, Jody, Bentley, Molly, Cedric, Sophia, Lloyd, Boyd, Floyd, Alicia, Melanie, Zoza, King Drew, Queen Sheila, Stephen, Valentina, Snooper, Jenny, Angel, Harry, Thomas, Mary, Alphonse, Harriet, Ronald, Hillary, Schaeffer, and Michelle all gathered in the room. Angel smiled and said, "Happy birthday, Bert!"

"Aww, guys, you shouldn't have!" cried Bert joyfully. He ran over to the table that had the birthday cake and stuffed himself with every piece of it. While munching on the cake, he continued, "Ya know, I had this really weird dream a moment or two ago...and all of you were in it!"

George asked, "What were we doing?"

"Well, an angel named Angelia showed me what the whole world would look like if I hadn't been born. The trees in the Evergreen Forest were cut down and a huge city was in its place...Ralph and Melissa were never together...Cyril was richer and more greedy, and Cedric and Sophia were slaves...Lisa was married to Curtis and her family still lived in the city...Mom was broke and lonely...and Angel...she was dead! Then I finally realized that I had learned an important lesson, that life is never good if you wish your friends are better off without you..."

They all stared at him n surprise. Lisa shook her head and muttered with a chuckle, "Oh, Bert, you and your crazy dreams."

"But will you still forgive me for what I had done to ruin your plans for the party?"

"Of course, we'll still forgive you," replied Ralph. "After all, what are friends for?"

"I know exactly what friends really ARE for--to dance the night away with!"

Everybody laughed, as they started to dance. Bert was so happy that he had learned such an important lesson...and it was all thanks to the angel who showed him what it truly means to be content with his life and his companions.

Great ending. Bert's a pretty cool guy.
