Little Stinker

By JENNY-87

Once upon a time there was a pretty skunk
Her name was Hephzibah, she had a lot of spunk
It was Valentine's Day and everybody was in love
Except for poor Hephzibah, lonely as a dove
She had a sweetheart whom we all know--
A cute and cuddly fox named Pogo.

She wanted somebody to call her own,
But being a skunk she was left alone
What's a skunk to do, do so well,
To get him to notice her...without the smell?

That's when an idea came to her mind,
So she went to the deep dark forest to find
Someone who knew the only way to
Make her Valentine's Day wish come true.

There was a good witch who lived in a tree
Casting spells and making potions, happy and free
It was to that witch Hephzibah paid a visit
When she knocked on the door, the witch asked, "Who is it?"

"It's me," she replied, "And I need your help,
I don't mean to cause you to scream or yelp,
I'm deeply in love with Pogo, he's very sweet,
And I want to be with him to make my life complete.
However, there's this one thing that's bothering me--
Every time I try to approach him, he starts to flee.
It's just that because I'm a skunk, and that's quite true
Without my sweet Pogo, I'm terribly blue."

The good witch thought for a moment or two,
Then she said with a smile, "I know what to do!
It's very, very simple and it'll do fine--
All you need is Love Potion #9!"

She went to the cupboard, found a small flask.
"What do I do with this?" Hephzibah asked.
The witch gave the flask to the skunk and said,
"Pour some of the potion on your head."

Hephzibah did so, and in no time at all
The magic of the potion covered her like a shawl
Her rounded ears became pointed instead
Her fur changed from black and white to white and red
Her eyes became a dazzling blue
There was even a change in her tail, too
It was still bushy, but what a sight!
The tip of her tail was shining white!

"Wow!" she exclaimed, "I look the best!
I'm sure Pogo will be impressed!
I'd like to stay longer, but I gotta run
Thanks, anyway--I'm off to have fun!"

The witch called after her, "A word of warning:
The effects of the potion will wear off in the morning
You'll be a skunk again at exactly midnight
So use them carefully and you'll be all right!"

Hephzibah, the fox, went right back home
Excited that she will never be alone,
She found Pogo with a sandwich he was about to enjoy
And with a sweet sultry voice she called out, "Hey, boy!"

Pogo looked up and saw with his eyes
A great big beautiful and gorgeous surprise--
Hephzibah, the skunk he turned down that day,
Is now a fox like him! That took his breath away.

And so the cute couple stayed together for a while
Celebrating Valentine's Day in their own style,
But at midnight, just as they were having fun,
The effects of the potion on Hephzibah were done
Slowly the spell diminished more and more
And then she was back to what she was before.

"Hephzibah!" shouted Pogo, "So it was you all along!
You're not a fox at all! Boy, am I wrong!"
Hephzibah asked with tears in her eyes,
"But will you still love me for the rest of our lives?"

Pogo looked at her, then replied with a shrug,
"Well, why not? You're still cute as a bug."
The skunk and the fox hugged again
And Hephzibah's loneliness came to an end.

And to all of you who are reading this today,
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day!
A poem written for Valentine's Day. I know it's two months too early, but this is what :iconjeh517: requested.
