Prologue

JENNY'S POV

I understand how it feels to lose a loved one, especially someone to whom you've been close to for more than a decade. In my case it was Queen Elsa.

When I first heard that she had died while trying to defend the Haven, I was shocked. Arendelle has just lost its beloved queen; it was a sure sign that the Republic, as we know it, was screwed. No, it's no longer the Republic--today it's New Rylaia. I really couldn't believe it's happened.

As I sit alone in the bedroom tonight, I look back at everything that led right up to the formation of an intergalactic dictatorship. Both Michael and I had made a lot of mistakes, him allowing Roxy to live instead of having her be put to death and I trusting Queen Phoebe to tutor Pax. I had been a fool to think she'd be on our side, yet I should have known about her ridiculously deceptive nature...she's a madwoman. A power-hungry madwoman. And I will NEVER give her mercy, no matter how much she begs for it, all because she hurt Pax. Minerva would have been so ashamed of her.

As of right now, Snoop and I are back on Hanna-Barbera. That world and Madrisia are the only two planets not under the control of New Rylaia, and I hope it stays that way; it's probably the one thing I'm thankful for. Another benefit to staying out of New Rylaia is, of all things, we can remain Guardians, unlike the unfortunate ones in the empire who had to give up their lightsabers and badges. Angel, though happy to have her homeworld spared and the throne still in her possession, had made necessary arrangements to make sure Queen Phoebe's army never invades it again. Thank the stars her crystal amulet posesses the ability to generate force-fields of any size and strength.

Galleth and Lilla, well...they weren't so lucky. They had already lost Thylaia, and since then they and their pups were forced to move in with Angel and Colin on Madrisia. Poor Lilla was devastated to see her planet being invaded for the second time in its history; every day she worries for her subjects, who are now getting repeatedly stomped on and bossed around by the mink conquerors. To this day, she's just as angry as I am about Phoebe's betrayal.

And worst of all, there was still no word yet on where Michael and Victoria had gone off to. Should I be glad the princess is back to normal? Maybe, but I'd also be worried. Our Guardian team members were nowhere to be seen, not even Doctor Whooves, for all I know they may be hiding out in the galaxy somewhere. With no lightsabers, no Guardian Code, and no other way to boost our spirits, our legacy may as well just be dead...

...no, not entirely dead. There's my grandson to think about. He
does have a future, even though it doesn't look like it. I've heard an old proverb that a flower that blooms in adversity is considered the most rare and beautiful of all; to comfort me I envision Pax being that kind of flower. He's been through so much during the whole war with the Eclipse, and he had trusted Queen Phoebe right up until the moment he saw her kill Frost. Yep, he totally hates her now...but he can't take her on his own, not without proper Guardian training or any weapons. And not while he is currently vulnerable, seeing how he hasn't gotten his psychological affairs in order yet.

Until we can find a way to get our galaxy back, we're stuck, no way out and no way in. We can't just give up now; we will survive, watching and waiting for the day New Rylaia is close to crumbling apart. The Galactic Guardians, like a phoenix, shall rise again...and this time, there's nothing she can do about it.
The prologue to the prequel to :iconmichael-goldenheart:'s Book Ten of the Galactic Guardians series. Here, we get to see Jenny's thoughts after Queen Phoebe destroyed the Republic.
